ADMINISTRATION

THE DIRECTOR

Dr. Robert Shafer has been involved in pubic and private educational programs for the past twenty six years. His experiences range from the preschool level to the high school level. He has served children in the Central Florida area as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher, a program director for the YMCA, a guidance counselor and a school administrator.

Dr. Shafer has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Central Florida with a major in elementary education and a minor in psychology. He holds a Master of Science degree from Nova University in human services administration, an education specialist degree in educational leadership from Nova University and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Barry University.

He has conducted research in reading achievement, the development of drug awareness and prevention programs, and the effectiveness of success oriented instruction. Dr. Shafer has participated in and presented numerous workshops relating to educational psychological and family-related issues.

THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Katherine Shafer has been involved in private educational programs for the past 21 years. Her experiences range from the kindergarten level to the high school level. She has designed the Avalon School reading program and conducts the professional development for the Avalon Staff.

Katherine Shafer holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a major in elementary and middle school education with a minor is science. She holds a Master Degree in Curriculum and Instructions from the University of Phoenix.

THE STAFF

All teachers at Avalon School are skilled, caring professionals. All staff members have degrees and several are candidates for advanced degrees. Beyond basic teaching of skills, concepts and applications, teachers maintain discipline and approach the learning situation in a positive and supportive manner.
